Columbia restaurant owner denies connection to Rick Chow

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) — The owner of Blaney’s Wings & Grill – Parklane, Minjie “Ken” Gao, is addressing speculation that he has connections to Rick Chow, who was found not guilty in the killing of Cyrus-Carmack-Belton this week.

Gao released the following statement on Facebook on Wednesday:

I had hoped not to address this any further because it has absolutely nothing to do with me or my business, but it has gone too far. My name is Minjie Gao. I go by Ken Gao because it is easier for most people to pronounce. I am the owner of Blaney’s Wings & Grill. Hai Lin and Bing Gao are my business partners. First and foremost, what happened to Cyrus was a tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, loved ones, and everyone affected by this loss. Over the past few days, my business has been brought into a situation that has nothing to do with us. We now believe we understand where this rumor came from. Some people apparently assumed that because Rick Chow has a relative named Kenneth, that somehow meant I was related to him. That assumption is completely false. To be absolutely clear: I am not Rick Chow’s nephew, uncle, cousin, family member, friend, business partner, or associate. I have never met Rick Chow. Neither I nor my business partners have any family connection, friendship, business relationship, financial ties, or affiliation of any kind with Rick Chow or his family. We do not understand why our business was targeted, but no evidence has ever been presented because there is no connection to present. If anyone has actual evidence showing otherwise, please share it below. We are more than willing to review any facts or documentation. However, accusations and rumors are not evidence. It is disappointing to see our employees, customers, and families affected by rumors that are simply not true. We have worked hard to build this business and serve our community, and we will continue to do so. This will be my final statement on this matter. I have stated the facts, made my position clear, and will not be participating in further speculation or online arguments. Thank you to everyone who took the time to seek the truth before jumping to conclusions and to those who continue to support Blaney’s Wings & Grill…
