Two women who worked as guards at separate prisons were recently arrested on similar charges that they accepted thousands in bribes from inmates, according to the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
Columbia 29-year-old Allyssa Jasso and 32-year-old Kingstree resident Laura Leigh Patterson were each charged with bribery, misconduct in office and violating the computer crime act, S.C. Department of Corrections officials said in news releases. Patterson, who worked as a correctional officer at Turbeville Correctional Institution, also was charged with securities fraud when she was arrested, according to the release.
