South Carolina childcare audit reveals licensing delays, provider shortages

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — A new audit by the South Carolina Legislative Audit Council found gaps in the childcare provider system after an 18-month study.

The Department of Social Services does not consistently track the childcare licensing process, leaving providers waiting months for answers when the process should take 30 days.
