The South Carolina Gamecocks lost a quarterback commit on Monday evening. It’s not often you hear of a signal-caller flipping from the Gamecocks to a non-power school, but that’s precisely what happened.
Although he had committed earlier in the month on June 5, 2027 quarterback Luke Gaither announced he was flipping his commitment Monday from South Carolina to Coastal Carolina:
T/Y @CoachSBeamer, @kendalbriles, and everyone at South Carolina for giving me the opportunity to be a P4 QB in the SEC.After much prayer, I’ve decided to pursue my lifelong dream of being a full-scholarship D1 QB at @CoastalFootball.Chants Up👌#OutHitOutHustle#BTruQBTrainingpic.twitter.com/RZhFrJm2QJ

While it’s important to note that Gaither, who is not rated by 247Sports or Rivals, committed to the Gamecocks as a preferred walk-on. Obviously if Gaither was a nationally ranked commit, him flipping to Coastal would be a huge story…
