Rabid bat confirmed in Lexington County; 1 person and 1 pet exposed

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– The South Carolina Department of Public Health (SCDPH) has confirmed that a bat found in West Columbia has tested positive for rabies.

The bat was found near Henslowe and Ashburton lanes.

It was submitted to DPH’s laboratory for testing on April 13, 2026, and was confirmed to have rabies on April 14, 2026.
