Richland County officials warning residents of text scam

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) — Richland County Government officials are warning the public about a text message scam in which individuals falsely claim to represent the State of South Carolina and the Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

Officials say they are aware of text messages sent to residents Monday about a “final court-ordered mandatory collection notice.”

The messages falsely inform recipients that they have pending criminal or traffic violations requiring immediate payment and include what appear to be legitimate citation numbers, contact information, and a QR code…
