‘We took action’: SC State hosts historic graduation after student protests led to speaker change

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – South Carolina State University held a historic commencement ceremony, marking the largest graduating class in 12 years with over 300 students crossing the stage.

The celebration came after students organized peaceful protests last week, calling for Lt. Governor Pamela Evette to be replaced as commencement speaker. Students said her morals did not align with what their HBCU stands for.
