Seismic activity returned Friday, as South Carolina’s fourth earthquake of May was recorded near the Palmetto State’s capital city.
A 1.9 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Columbia area, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The seismic activity hit at 11:41 a.m. in Irmo, the South Carolina Emergency Management Division said.
The tremors near the Broad River were recorded about 11 miles beneath the surface of the ground, USGS data shows.
