Morning Interview: Initiative to cut high blood pressure

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Primary Care Physician Dr. Daryl Ellis with Piedmont Columbus Regional joined WRBL to discuss ways to lower blood pressure and a statewide health education initiative.

According to the CDC, high blood pressure or hypertension affects nearly half of all adults in the U.S. It’s called a silent killer because it often shows no symptoms while quietly damaging one’s body.

Ellis said that normal blood pressure numbers should be at or below 120 over 70. He also said that once the numbers get above 135, over 85 sustained on three sequential readings on three days, it’s considered grade one hypertension. Anyone with numbers in this range should seek medical care…
