Columbus school board clash escalates to state lawmakers

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A Columbus City Schools board member is asking Ohio lawmakers to strengthen state oversight of school districts, escalating a dispute with district leadership over how CCS handled a multimillion-dollar health insurance shortfall.

Board member Brandon Simmons sent a letter Wednesday to the leadership of the Ohio House and Senate Education Committees, requesting legislation that would require independent financial reviews and stronger investigation standards when districts experience major financial or operational failures.
