Unlicensed daycare in northwest Columbus shuttered after fire code violations

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A northwest Columbus unlicensed daycare has been shut down after reported safety and fire code violations.

According to the Columbus City Attorney’s Office, the city’s Property Team Action confirmed it received a court order to shutter an unlicensed daycare facility located on West Dublin Granville Road in the Linworth area. The emergency order targets the Russian Club Daycare Center, which was the subject of a Columbus Fire inspection.

The inspection occurred on March 20 and allegedly uncovered nearly a dozen dangerous safety and fire code violations at the property, including an open well in the playground area, “large enough for a child to fall through”.

Additional violations reportedly included non-functioning smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, holes in the fencing leading out to the main road and did not display a certificate of occupancy for commercial childcare.

The CFD issued a Serious Hazard Order, requiring the owner to vacate the children by the end of the day on March 26, not allowing the building to reopen until the issues are resolved. The Property Action Team then followed with an emergency court order seeking the closure of the daycare until further notice…
