40,000 Strong: Scottie Pippen, Buckeye greats brave rain for star-studded spring scrimmage

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Despite a forecast of “sideways” rain and unseasonable April chills, more than 40,000 Buckeye faithful filled Ohio Stadium on Saturday for the annual Scarlet and Gray spring game, providing the first public glimpse of a roster that coach Ryan Day calls the “deepest” of his tenure.

The OSU defense walked away with a 35-26 victory, but the story of the day was the resiliency of the 40,240 fans in attendance and a star-studded sideline that signaled the program’s massive recruiting and portal momentum.

NOTE: The Spring Game has a unique scoring system that allowed the defense to score three points for an interception, three points for a three-and-out, two points for a sack, and one point for a forced punt.
