‘Was never meant to happen’: Father wants charges dropped for 18-year-old accused in his son’s death

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus father wants the charges dropped for an 18-year-old man charged with his son’s murder, something he said was an accident.

Damien Grier, 18, was arrested and charged with murder after police responded to a home on Autumn Village Drive Thursday night. They found 18-year-old Kamarcus Sowell-Butler dead with a gunshot wound to his head.

When Grier was arraigned over the weekend, his defense attorney said the shooting was an accident, and said Grier stayed on scene to render aid and gave a statement to police…
