Flags ordered to be flown at half-staff in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Gov. Mike DeWine has ordered U.S. and Ohio flags to be flown at half-staff.

In honor of the life and service of former Ohio House of Representatives member William “Bill” Patmon, DeWine has ordered that the flags of the United States and the state of Ohio be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout Cuyahoga County as well as at the Ohio Statehouse, Vern Riffe Center, and Rhodes Tower from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday for his funeral.

Patmon died on April 12 at age 80. All other public buildings and grounds throughout the state may fly the flags of the United States and the state of Ohio at half-staff at their discretion for the same time period.

“Representative Patmon’s legacy is one of service, courage, and deep love for his community,” said Terrence Upchurch, president of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus. “As someone who had the honor of succeeding him in the same House district, I stand on his shoulders. His work laid the foundation for the progress we continue to fight for today, and I am grateful for the path he cleared for leaders like myself.”…
