Columbus schools cutting 299 positions

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – The Columbus City Schools district is cutting more jobs in an effort to reach $50 million in budget cuts.

In a unanimous vote, the school board voted on Tuesday to eliminate 299 positions within the district. According to Columbus Superintendent Dr. Angela Chapman, 187 of those positions are currently open, leaving 112 people facing layoffs by July 31; many of those are building substitutes.

The cuts will save the district $25.9 million, which, in addition to about $25 million in administrative, busing, and building closures approved in December 2025, puts the district above the $50 million goal.
