World’s largest operating steam locomotive ‘Big Boy’ to make stop in northwest Ohio on America250 cross-country journey

TOLEDO, Ohio — “Big Boy,” the world’s largest operating steam locomotive, will make a few stops in northwest Ohio as a part of its cross-country tour celebration the nation’s 250th anniversary.

The train, formally called “Big Boy No. 4014,” belongs to Union Pacific and is journeying to the East Coast for the first time. As a part of the coast-to-coast tour, Union Pacific said the locomotive will make its first-ever stops in Indiana, Ohio, New York and Pennsylvania. In addition to more than 50 whistle stops in 10 states, major displays events will be held in eight cities, including one in northwest Ohio.

On its way to the July 4 celebration in Philadelphia, Big Boy will make a stop in Continental, Ohio on June 6. It’s scheduled to arrive near Oak Street and Main Street at 11:45 a.m. and depart at 12:15 p.m…
