An inmate seemingly choked to death on food at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility on Sunday, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim, 48-year-old Robert Wayne Shingleton of Aguanga, was choking on food inside a jail housing unit when corrections staff attempted to rescue him, the sheriff’s office said.
“Corrections staff and jail medical personnel immediately responded to the housing unit and administered medical aid,” the sheriff’s office said.
