Southwest High Culinary Arts Students Earn Top Honors at Conference

EL CENTRO — Southwest High School proudly announces the outstanding achievements of its Culinary Arts students at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America State Leadership Conference, held April 24-26, in Riverside.

Representing Southwest High School and Region 10, students Ivanna Cota and Zuri Negrete showcased their culinary expertise on a statewide stage after first qualifying at the Region 10 competition in La Quinta in January. Ivanna Cota earned third place in Culinary Display: Wedding Cakes, demonstrating exceptional creativity, technical skill, and attention to detail in cake design and presentation. Zuri Negrete earned second place in Salad Preparation, highlighting strong culinary technique, flavor balance, and professionalism in food preparation. Competing against top FCCLA members from across California, both students represented the highest level of student achievement in Family and Consumer Sciences programs. Their success reflects the strength of Southwest High School’s CTE Culinary Arts pathway and the commitment of its students to excellence.

“These accomplishments are a direct result of the students’ hard work, preparation, and passion for the culinary arts,” said Amanda Hill, Southwest High School CTE Culinary Arts instructor and FCCLA adviser. “We are incredibly proud of how they represented Southwest High School at the state level.”
