Wildfires trigger air quality advisories across 4 Southern California counties Wednesday

Multiple wildfires burning across Southern California have combined with warm conditions to trigger air quality advisories for parts of four counties Wednesday.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District says the advisories will continue until at least 4:30 p.m. due to smoke from the Sandy Fire (affecting Simi Valley), Bain Fire (affecting Riverside County) and Santa Rosa Fire (affecting coastal areas of Los Angeles and Orange counties).

If you are in an area impacted by smoke:

  • Limit your exposure by remaining indoors with windows and doors closed or seeking alternate shelter.
  • Avoid vigorous physical activity.
  • Run your air conditioning and/or an air purifier. If possible, do not use swamp coolers or whole-house fans that bring in outside air.
  • Avoid burning wood in your fireplace or fire pit and minimize indoor air pollution from candles, incense, pan-frying, and grilling.
  • If you must be outside, a properly fit N95 or P100 respirator may provide some protection.

Depending on fire activity, smoke conditions on Wednesday are expected to improve during the day in areas not adjacent to active fires, officials said.
