Aransas Pass High School freshman Xila Villafuerte recently returned from New York after attending the 31st Summer School of Excellence at the American Academy of Ballet (AAB) Summer Intensive, hosted at Purchase College, SUNY (State University of New York).
Villafuerte, who earned a scholarship to attend the June program, trained alongside international dancers and instructors. Her dance background includes training with Munro Ballet Studios in Corpus Christi and Holly Waxman of Rockport Ballet Theatre.
Following the intensive, Villafuerte and her mother, Alix, toured New York City landmarks, including Lincoln Center, the Empire State Building and the Macy’s Fireworks display celebrating America’s 250th birthday. Villafuerte also received a custom pointe shoe fitting at Gaynor Minden…
