KINGSVILLE — The Rockport-Fulton High School’s girls 400-meter relay team will head to the state track and field meet with some more gold. The Pirates sprint relay squad continued their record-breaking run this spring by winning at the Region IV-4A Track and Field Championships at Javelina Stadium in Kingsville on May 2.
Nahla Gandy, Holly Baergen, Adyson Burton and Logann Wood combined to run a school-record time of 47.73 seconds in the event, which was about two-tenths of a second quicker than second place Comal Canyon, who clocked in at 47.96.
Through the spring season, the squad has won district, area, and now a regional championship, and is resetting the event’s school record along the way. The squad’s 48.20 effort during Friday’s preliminary heat lowered their already existing school record and Saturday’s time in the finals set the school record again…
