Wrapping up how Rockport-Fulton athletes fared at the UIL State Track Meet

AUSTIN — A little more than a week before Gus Johnson walks across the stage as the Rockport-Fulton High School Class of 2026 salutatorian, he competed at the UIL State Track & Field Meet, looking to make some history.

Johnson missed out on a medal, but he finished in fifth place in the Class 4A boys pole vault at the state meet, completing a stellar season for the senior at Mike A. Myers Stadium. Johnson, who will attend the University of Texas to study business, cleared 15 feet in the competition. Wimberley’s Dane Mignerey, who won the Region IV title ahead of Johnson, took gold in the event, clearing 16-0.

Pirate junior Jordan Boles finished seventh in the Class 4A boys long jump, jumping 22-0, which he recorded on the third of his six attempts. Fort Worth Dunbar’s Cayden Brooks won with a leap of 23-10.5…
