A large portion of deep South Texas is under a flood watch through Memorial Day, according to the National Weather Service at Brownsville.
A series of strong thunderstorms dumped several inches of rain across the Rio Grande Valley, ranchlands counties and the Coastal Bend over the course of 48 hours between Wednesday and Thursday, which has saturated soils across the region. And several more inches of rain are expected over the Memorial Day weekend through Monday, May 25. Forecasters warn additional rounds of heavy rain through Monday could trigger isolated flash flooding across already saturated areas.
