Identity Fraud Case at UNG Triggers Statewide Investigation

An identity fraud case reported at the University of North Georgia in December 2025 has led to a statewide investigation spanning multiple institutions across the University System of Georgia.

In the cases being investigated throughout the state, cybercriminals used personal information to open OnePay credit card accounts through Synchrony Bank without the knowledge of affected USG students, employees and retirees.
