The Downtown Gainesville Square hosted an event to celebrate the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 7.
The celebration started at the Civic Center and then moved to the Downtown Square, where groups prayed for church, family, military, government, media, education and business.
“The National Day of Prayer is a national holiday when the nation comes together to pray for the country over seven to nine areas,” Brandy Sandoval, one of the event’s organizers, said. “We just count ourselves blessed to be joining in with the nation, from Washington, DC, to Gainesville, Georgia to honor God in this special way.”
Sandoval has organized this event in Gainesville for 18 years and said this year the turnout was slimmer than previous years because of the weather.
