Texas weighs H-1B hiring ban for public schools
A new Texas proposal could reshape how public schools hire some teachers and staff. Gov. Greg Abbott wants Texas public schools to stop employing workers on H-1B visas. The plan would affect both new hires and current employees. Dallas ISD could face one of the biggest impacts.
The district has relied on international teachers to help fill shortages. Abbott says Texas schools should instead find qualified workers from Texas or elsewhere in the United States.
The proposal still needs approval from the Texas Legislature. Lawmakers are expected to consider it next year.
