Suspect dead after failed carjacking attempt, Garland police say

GARLAND, Texas — Garland police are investigating a fatal shooting this evening after a hit and run suspect reportedly tried to leave the scene of an accident by attempting to steal the wrong vehicle.

Authorities have told WFAA at the scene that the shooting death occurred after a suspect in a green passenger car on Highway 66 became involved in a multi-vehicle accident at approximately 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon, hitting two other vehicles, according to Garland police.

While fleeing the accident scene, the driver of the vehicle stopped at a gas station near the intersection of 66 and Dairy Road. In the parking lot of the gas station, he tried getting into multiple parked vehicles but failed. Later the crash suspect crossed Dairy Road on foot and entered the parking lot of a convenience store, according to police…
