Bomb squad called to Butler Co. home after suspicious boxes found

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Butler County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Unit recently removed over 60-year-old artillery pellets from a person’s home.

Officials were called to a home in the city of Hamilton after family members found two suspicious boxes as they were organizing belongings from a loved one who had recently died.

According to Bomb Specialist Grime, the boxes contained over 20 black powder pellets weighing approximately 1.40 pounds, made in approximately June 1963. He said these were used in large artillery systems and ignited large-caliber pieces / naval guns for battleships.
