New Community Authority pilot program sparks debate in Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Dayton is pursuing a new program to raise money for development across the city, but some remain skeptical that the program is right for the city.

The New Community Authority, the focus of the last two Dayton City Commission meetings, could become a tool for the city by allowing businesses to opt into a charge for their services to raise money for development.

“Those dollars would be used for additional improvements, streetscape, and lighting,” said Mayor Shenise Turner-Sloss. “Various amenities in terms of green space that will allow for future economic development.”…
