DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is warning the public about another phone scam spike; this one is about jury duty and court appearances.
Officials said the scammers pretend to be MCSO employees and claim the potential victim has missed jury duty or a scheduled court appearance. They then frighten the potential victim and say they must instantly pay a fine to avoid arrest.
The person is pressured to make a payment through:
- Apple Pay
- Bitcoin ATMs
- CashApp
- Money orders
- Other electronic methods
- PayPal
