TROY, Ohio (WKEF) — On Sunday at the Miami Valley Veterans Museum, community members came together not only to remember a name but to pay tribute to an extraordinary act of sacrifice. The gathering was in honor of William Pitsenbarger, a Vietnam War hero whose bravery continues to inspire, commemorating the 60th anniversary of his passing.
Dayton 24/7 Now’s Zeakia Jordan spoke with Vietnam veterans who served alongside this hometown hero. Their stories shed light on the remarkable courage of Pitsenbarger, an Air Force pararescueman from Piqua, Ohio, as he held a position they said is among the toughest in the entire branch.
Retired Air Force Master Sgt. Amy Cost shared a glimpse into Pitsenbarger’s heroic actions: “On the ground, he organized and coordinated rescue efforts, cared for the wounded, prepared casualties for evacuations, and ensured that the recovery operation continued in a smooth and orderly fashion.”…
