Omaha Police Shoot Woman After She Injures Toddler at Walmart
OMAHA, Neb. – A woman was fatally shot by Omaha Police officers Tuesday morning after she cut a 3-year-old boy with a knife in the parking lot of a Walmart, authorities confirmed.
Officers responded to the Walmart near 72nd Street between Pacific and Mercy Road around 9:20 a.m. Upon arrival, they encountered the woman who had taken the young child from his caretaker and was causing him harm, Omaha Police Deputy Chief Scott Gray said.
According to Gray, when officers gave commands, the woman began swinging the knife, inflicting cuts to the boy’s hands and face. Police then discharged their weapons, fatally wounding the woman at the scene. The child was promptly transported to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries.
The Omaha Police Department emphasized this was an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the public.
A Walmart spokesperson expressed their condemnation of the event, stating, “Violence like this is unacceptable. We’re working with police and supporting them in their investigation.”
