ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Atlanta customs officers stopped more than two tons of illegal drugs from getting into the U.S., according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
CBP officers seized 4,000 pounds of khat at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport this year, the agency said in a press release Friday.
Khat, also known as “Abyssinian tea” or “African salad,” is an African plant that contains the powerful stimulant cathinone, a Schedule 1 controlled substance under federal law.
