ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Jonesboro Mayor Donya L. Sartor was censured by the city council during a meeting Monday night. The move comes amid questions about funding for community events and an employee grievance.
The city council claims spending on the city’s 2026 Juneteenth and Fourth of July celebrations exceeded the budgeted amount by nearly $22,000. The city said it had been responsible for fireworks expenses, while in years past that had been the responsibility of the Downtown Development Authority (DDA).
This marks the second year in a row Sartor has come under scrutiny over the Juneteenth and Fourth of July celebrations. Last year, the city council ordered a forensic audit after Sartor allegedly misrepresented funds used to pay for the 2025 Juneteenth event.
