DeKalb County Police officers descended on a Chevron gas station on Snapfinger Woods Drive early Tuesday morning after a shooting sent yellow crime scene tape stretching across the property. Officers responded to the call around 4 a.m., and as of Tuesday, authorities had not released details about what led to the gunfire or identified the victim. FOX 5 Atlanta reported that one person suffered a non-life-threatening injury.
Police also have not released information about a possible suspect or said whether anyone has been arrested, according to FOX 5 Atlanta, whose photojournalist responded to the scene as investigators worked the case. Reporting from Cedar News confirmed that officers focused their investigation specifically on the Chevron location, with police tape erected around the store’s perimeter.
A Familiar Address for Gun Violence
Tuesday’s shooting is the latest in a string of violent incidents that have plagued the 5000 block of Snapfinger Woods Drive in recent years. In January 2023, 20-year-old Akhir Muhammad was shot in the back and killed during an armed robbery at a gas station on that same block; two men were later sentenced to life in prison in the case, the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office announced in May 2025.
Less than a year before Tuesday’s shooting, a fatal shooting on Halloween night claimed the life of 27-year-old Quintin Lewis outside a Shell gas station on Snapfinger Woods Drive, with deputies later arresting a suspect on malice murder charges, as Hoodline reported at the time. Just months later, in February, a Saturday morning shooting in the same 5000 block left a man injured around 10:17 a.m., according to WSB-TV. And this past July, Hoodline reported a late-night weekend shooting on Snapfinger Woods Drive that sent another man to the hospital in stable condition.
County’s Camera Mandate Faces Compliance Questions
The repeated violence along the corridor comes even as DeKalb County has pushed to require gas stations and convenience stores to install round-the-clock security cameras. Legislation passed in December 2022 and amended in February 2024 mandates that all such businesses in unincorporated DeKalb County maintain 24/7 video surveillance with 30-day footage storage, according to county records.
