People seen ignoring trail closure in Highlands Ranch meant to protect eagles

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (KDVR) — The Wildcat Mountain Trail is currently closed in the Backcountry Wilderness area of Highlands Ranch. The goal is to protect a nesting pair of golden eagles and their eaglet.

But Highlands Ranch Community Association and Backcountry Wilderness Area officials posted that trail cameras show a number of people going around the sign and gates to get into the area.

This is concerning to Peter Reshetniak, a founder of the Raptor Education Foundation.

“These goldens do not tolerate human proximity, as well as bald eagles do, and the fact that this nest is still active means that all of those restrictions are there for rational sound reasons,” Reshetniak said…
