DENVER — Families in three Denver neighborhoods — all historically Latino or Black communities — are spending another summer without access to outdoor pools. It comes after years of closures tied to renovation projects continue to frustrate residents who say the delays reflect a deeper inequity in how the city invests in their communities.
The Curtis Park, Ruby Hill and Sunnyside neighborhoods all have outdoor pools that are closed, including the Mestizo-Curtis Park Outdoor Pool that has been closed since 2023. It is not expected to reopen until 2028, meaning families will have gone at least five consecutive summers without it.
