Driver’s death in fatal I-70 wrong-way crash ruled intentional

LOMA, Colo. (KJCT) — The Colorado State Patrol has provided an update in its investigation of a deadly wrong-way crash that killed the driver and hospitalized a family last month.

The state patrol said that the Mesa County Coroner’s Office ruled the death of the driver, 32-year-old Briana Brink of Colorado Springs, to be an intentional act. Brink had a blood alcohol content of 0.235 at the time of the crash, the state patrol said.

Brink was reported as a drunk driver speeding in the westbound lane while heading east near Rabbit Valley before the crash, the state patrol previously reported. Brink’s Subaru crashed head-on into a Ford F150 carrying six people, including several children, at about 11:41 a.m. on July 20.

The driver of the F-150, a 40-year-old man, and the passengers, a 32-year-old woman, a 24-year-old woman, and three children were all hospitalized with serious injuries. All six were from Thornton, Colorado, according to the state patrol. The state patrol did not state their current condition…
