Colorado’s Greenland Overpass: North America’s Biggest Wildlife Bridge Reconnects Fragmented Habitats
Drivers speeding along Interstate 25 south of Denver rarely glance upward. Yet 100,000 vehicles pass daily beneath a structure that now carries elk herds, pronghorn and mountain lions safely overhead. The Greenland Wildlife Overpass, completed in December 2025, spans six lanes near Larkspur. At 209 feet long and 200 feet wide, it covers nearly an acre. Officials with the Colorado Department of Transportation call it the largest such bridge for wildlife in North America.
