DENVER (KDVR) — One person was taken to a Boulder hospital in critical condition after a dog attack Sunday morning, according to the Boulder Police Department.
According to police, officers were called to a disturbance in the 3200 block of Palo Parkway at 8:17 a.m. They found a dog severely attacking a person. Police said the dog also posed a significant risk to multiple bystanders.
FOX31 interviewed a neighbor who witnessed the attack.
“[The victim’s] son with the pitbull, their dog latched onto him and he was getting mauled,” Madeleine Gagne, who stepped in to try and help, said.
“I looked at her [the mom] and said, ‘I own a gun do you want me to get it?’” Gagne said. “She said ‘Yes, please.’”
Gagne said a man tried to stab the dog, but wasn’t able to get him off the victim.
“Unfortunately, less lethal measures were ineffective, and officers had to discharge their firearm after the dog tried to attack the officers,” police said.
Officers provided medical aid to the victim who was attacked by the dog before they were taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
