More charges for Iowa woman accused of neglecting 22 equines

DES MOINES, Iowa — More details have been released and additional charges have been filed against a Des Moines woman accused of neglecting 22 equines.

Last week, the Animal Rescue League of Iowa announced that a total of 21 horses and one donkey had been rescued from three separate properties after an investigation into poor living conditions. The equines were taken to the Second Chance Ranch where they received care from ARL staff and veterinarians.

In a statement last week it was reported that many of the animals showed obvious signs of improper care including being underweight, covered in parasites, infected wounds, and damaged legs.
