Central Iowa Water Works issues mandatory lawn watering ban due to high nitrate levels

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI) – Central Iowa Water Works (CIWW) announced Monday it has issued a mandatory lawn watering ban due to heightened nitrate levels, KCCI reports.

The CIWW Board of Trustees enacted Stage 3 of its Water Use Plan, meaning residential, commercial and government customers must stop outdoor watering to preserve drinking water.

Under the new restrictions, lawn watering is banned with the exception of newly-installed sod or seed planted during the current season. Even in those circumstances, only the minimum amount of water will be allowed…
