West Des Moines man convicted in 2025 Walgreens robbery

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — A Polk County jury found a West Des Moines man guilty in a 2025 Walgreens robbery.

The Polk County Attorney’s Office says 32-year-old Bashir Omar Yussuf was found guilty of first-degree robbery by a Polk County jury on Wednesday.

In November 2025, local law enforcement was called to the Walgreens located along 22nd Street in West Des Moines on reports of an armed robbery. Evidence gathered at the scene showed Yussuf had become aware that the customer in front of him in line had approximately $500-$700 in cash while waiting at the checkout.

Surveillance video then shows that after the victim left the checkout, Yussuf followed the victim to their vehicle, where Yussuf threatened the victim at gunpoint and demanded they turn over the money. After securing the money, Yussuf fled the scene.

During their investigation, police learned Yussuf had fled across Westown Parkway and boarded a DART bus. Additional footage captured him exiting at 73rd Street in Windsor Heights, where he discarded his hoodie.
