Iowa Department of Agriculture announces funding for 4 urban water quality projects

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) will invest nearly $750,000 in four urban water quality projects, Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig announced on Thursday.

Des Moines, Altoona, Osceola and Asbury, a Dubuque suburb, join four other recipients of IDALS urban water quality funding that were announced this May. This most recent round of projects will receive about $3 million in total thanks to contributions from public and private partners, according to IDALS.

The projects aim to better manage stormwater and nutrient runoff at a time when nitrate levels in many Iowans’ drinking water sources are nearing or breaching the EPA’s standard. IDALS says the projects make progress toward the goals outlined in the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy…
