Norwalk Updates Rules for E-Bikes, Scooters, and Other Personal Transportation Devices

The Norwalk City Council has approved updates to the city’s transportation regulations aimed at clarifying where e-bikes, scooters, and other personal transportation devices can legally operate.

The ordinance updates the city’s bicycle regulations to include electric bicycles, electric scooters, pocket bikes, and other similar devices as their use continues to increase throughout the community. City Manager Luke Nelson tells KNIA News the goal is to create a single set of rules that clearly outlines where each type of equipment belongs.

“We’ve seen an influx across the entire metro, maybe arguably across the country. E-bikes, e-scooters have become quite popular, and you’re seeing a lot more of them on sidewalks, trails, streets…Our E-bike ordinance…is our way of trying to give our citizens a way to look at this one ordinance and know where are they supposed to operate.”…
