DES MOINES, Iowa — A death investigation is underway after a man’s body was found under a freeway bridge in Des Moines Friday morning.
The Des Moines Police Department said that at around 8 a.m., officers with the mobile crisis unit were checking on a homeless camp on E. 15th Street under the Interstate 235 underpass. During their check, they found a 56-year-old man who appeared to have been dead for some time.

A preliminary investigation of available evidence didn’t reveal any obvious signs of trauma or criminal circumstances as contributing factors in the man’s death, the DMPD said. Indications of a pre-existing health condition were discovered.
An autopsy will be conducted by the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the man’s exact cause of death…
