Iowa State Fair vendors start set up, organizers warn of pre-fair dangers

DES MOINES, Iowa — Over 500 vendors are now in the process of setting up for the Iowa State Fair and, despite the humidity, many say they are excited for the 11-day event.

“We always get that Iowa blast of heat that we’re not always expecting when we get out of the trucks and start setting up. So, I’m pretty sure I’ve lost a few pounds in sweat so far, but that’s just all part of the process,” said Nate Kulenkemp, who manages the three Brad & Harry’s Cheese Curds stands and Duke’s Poutine.

Kulenkemp’s concessions are based out of the Twin Cities, but has been coming to the Iowa State Fair since 1989.
