Interactive domino art opens in Des Moines’ Cowles Commons

DES MOINES, Iowa — An interactive public art installation featuring oversized illuminated dominoes opened in Des Moines’ Cowles Commons this weekend.

The artwork consists of multiple stations with colorful dominoes that glow, making the installation especially visible during evening and early morning hours. Each section features a unique musical profile played through instruments such as the marimba, balafon, flute, percussion and vocals as visitors interact with the pieces.

The installation was created by Montreal-based design studio Ingrid Ingrid; the exhibit is co-presented by Des Moines Performing Arts, Operation Downtown and the Greater Des Moines Partnership as part of the 2026 Hy-Vee Summer Arts Series…
