Severe weather is possible Monday Evening

(Des Moines) The National Weather Service in Des Moines released a weather update on Sunday evening, forecasting the possibility of severe thunderstorms moving into southwest Iowa on Monday evening. Forecasters are calling for the possibility of damaging winds and a few tornadoes, with the highest chance over the southwest half of Iowa.

Excessive rainfall is possible, especially over southwest Iowa, as showers and storms pass through the state Monday evening into the night. Rainfall up to 0.75-1.5 inches is possible, especially over western Iowa. Rivers and streams will see the potential for additional rises. This may result in new or renewed minor flooding across western and central Iowa river basins. Ponding in low-lying and poor drainage areas can also be expected.
