The hands free driving passed in 2025 has been fully in effect since the start of the year.
Iowa State Patrol Trooper Shelby McCreedy says that since they’ve begun giving citations for those not following the hands free bill, there were 1,218. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that with the number of citations in February falling to 1,141, they were hopeful that trend would continue.
“We really kind of felt like the trend was people are adapting. But unfortunately in March, that number climbs back up to nearly 1,200. 1,194 citations were issued in the month of March. So obviously there’s gonna be growing pains, there’s gonna be a learning curve.”…
